I am not the kind of person who enjoy being in the spotlight, but it is always nice when someone remember my birthday, my favourite songs or foods...or in my case, my name. I’m totally cool with nicknames. Hell, even one of my colleagues is used to calling me ‘vacuum cleaner’ and I don’t mind. Because in his head, the shape of a vacuum cleaner represents me well. It means that he remembers me as the way I am.
Almost every single person in my life (aside from my family, of course) refers me as NINDYA and exactly at the moment I heard that I have this sudden urge to burst in tears and said “It’s NIDYA. Would you please pay attention?” I’ve corrected those people, some changed and some didn’t. At the end, I tend to like those who changed than the ones who didn’t. Why? Well, name is a label, a distinctive code that reminds you about someone or something. Names carry legacies and paying attention to others name is a form of respect. Ignoring my request is simply disrespectful...it actually makes me feel sad.
Cheers,
Nidya
